Program Purpose: This course will explore the legal and ethical reasons for consent to the withholding and withdrawal of medical treatment. Openly discuss the ethical dilemma of withholding artificial nutrition and hydration. Code status limited Do Not Resuscitate vs Do Not Intubate.
Program Objective: At the conclusion of the training, the participant will be able to:
- Have a clear understanding of the options, expected outcomes, and risks.
- Determine why a decision needs to be made now rather than later, and what happens if action is not taken.
- Recognize when a least restrictive alternative should be accepted and when a second medical opinion is necessary. However, ensuring the most appropriate course of action is taken.
- Clear understanding of Chapter 744 and Chapter 58M-2.
